ARTD 365 - 2D Animation II


3 Credit(s)

Building on 2D animation principles from ARTD 270 , students will dive deeper into intermediate and advanced animation. Emphasis on draftsmanship, performance, appeal, and cleanup. Students will work both alone and in groups, exploring multiple animation pipelines and software to created 2D animations for a wide variety of applications.

Prerequisite(s): ARTD 320  or permission of instructor.

Course Frequency: ALT S (odd years)

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Technical ability: Students will produce professional work that demonstrates proficiency in analog and digital media. This includes but is not limited to: ToonBoom, perspective, proportion, anatomy, principles of animation, speed, iteration, and timing. 2.Composition: Students will grapple with creating successful compositions in digital space both alone and in a series. Students will be able to speak competently on different compositional choices and how they relate to a chosen narrative. 3.Narrative: Students will construct visual narratives using individual pieces of art, as well as animation storyboard and animatics. Students will focus on the relationship between narrative and visual. 4.Time: Students will experiment with time as an artistic tool, focusing on its execution in the scope of the animation principle of time. 5.Historical, cultural, and social contexts: Students will articulate the significance of art history, contemporary artists and art movements to the making of art and design.
