Basic Social Science Endorsement (5-12)

The following programs qualify a teacher to teach in the broader areas of social sciences. The endorsements must be accompanied by a major in history.

Upon completion of a teaching major in history, this additional endorsement will allow one to teach any middle school social studies course, any high school American history, world history, or American government course. Additional areas are optional.

One can obtain the requirements for the basic social science endorsement by completing the following courses:

American history - 9 credit hours

HIST 101 - History of the United States to 1877 (U.S.) 3 Credit(s)
HIST 102 - History of the United States After 187 7 (U.S.) 3 Credit(s)
Any American history elective, 200 level or above

World history - 9 credit hours

HIST 111 - World Civilizations I (World) 3 Credit(s)
HIST 112 - World Civilizations II (World) 3 Credit(s)
Any World History elective, 200 level or above

American Government - 9 credit hours

PSCN 110 - Introduction to American Government 3 Credit(s)
PSCN 115 - Introduction to Politics 3 Credit(s)
Any PSCN elective, 200 level or above

Additional areas may be included with an additional 6 hours per each endorsement area.
