CHEM 262 - Organic Chemistry II 4 Credit(s)
This course covers more complex syntheses and functional groups, including the chemistry of carbonyl compounds. Expansion and application of organic manipulations to biologically relevant and pharmaceutical compounds is addressed. Laboratory continues organic synthesis and includes qualitative analysis of organic compounds. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory.
Prerequisite(s): CHEM 261 .
Course Frequency: S
Grading Method: Student option.
Learning Outcomes:
- Use arrow-pushing mechanisms to describe the reactions of a variety of functional groups.
- Describe the synthesis and reaction of a variety of functional groups.
- Perform synthetic organic reactions in the laboratory.
- Use the knowledge acquired to explain a multistep synthesis of a large molecule in the chemical literature.
