CHEM 261 - Organic Chemistry I 4 Credit(s)
First in a two-semester sequence introducing the chemistry of carbon compounds. Emphasis on structure, spectroscopic analysis, synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and properties. Laboratory emphasizes technique and synthesis. Three lectures and one three-hour laboratory period.
Prerequisite(s): CHEM 152 .

- Draw organic structures, including resonance forms.
- Describe how organic acids and bases behave.
- Name, draw, and explain various conformations of alkanes.
- Explain the basics of an organic reaction and use these reactions to synthesize a desired molecule.
