ARTD 301 - Ancient through Roman Art History

This course explores the art of ancient peoples throughout the evolution of western civilization. Major artworks, production methods, and beliefs from the earliest primitive cultures through the medieval times will be studied. Artwork will be examined from critical and historical perspectives, with regard to formal visual elements of style and the social context of the societies, values, and ideas that gave birth to Western art.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Become familiar with the significant landmarks within the historical parameters of the course, the evolutionary trends in art history, and adept in scholarly research and writing.2.Be able to identify the names of artists of discussed time periods, titles of artworks from course readings and lectures, and significant dates specific to the parameters of the course.3.Acquire and develop communication skills in the areas of visual analysis and interpretation of artworks.4.Show proficiency in ability to discuss artworks and historical events of the times covered in the course and relate art them to broader life experiences and to the contemporary world.
