IDST 400 - Challenges for the 21st Century

IDST 400 serves as a culminating seminar experience in the general education component of the BVU curriculum. Required of all students who seek a baccalaureate degree, IDST400 is an interdisciplinary investigation of the most vexing issues facing human beings, their societies, and their planet. Particular attention is paid to emerging technologies, new paradigms for learning, changing conceptions of community, and the opportunities of living in a globalized world. IDST 400 emphasizes problem solving skills, the habits of integrative learning, and effective communication. IDST 400 is offered on a letter grade basis only and may not be completed on a “pass/fail” basis.

Grading Method: Letter grade.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Students will be able to combine ideas from different courses or academic disciplines when performing a problem-solving task.2.Students will be able to assemble a new grasp of a problem or issue that subsequently informs a problem-solving task.3.Students will be able to formulate an original response (solution) to a complex problem or issue based on learning in an academic major or the program of general education.
