EDCO 250 - Educational Psychology/Human Development and Field Experience 3 Credit(s)
A study of classroom behavior with emphasis on motivation and promotion of learning. Introduces development of children, the nature and theories of learning, instructional strategies based on students’ learning needs, motivational processes in the classroom and assessment of student learning. This course includes an initial experience in a classroom setting aligned to the endorsement area sought for a minimum of 15 hours per semester/term. The directed observation and classroom content expect participant observers to make connections between theoretical concepts and actual classroom practices focusing on learning and motivation, and classroom management and instructional strategies based on developmental theory. Through classroom experience, students will begin to focus on principles of learning as seen in the effective practices of planning and teaching which are expected as exit outcomes for the Teacher Education Program. Additionally, this course emphasizes the development of reflective skills related to observation experiences. As part of the reflective practice, students will complete an EDA Assessment.
Prerequisite(s): Students must complete a background check prior to field experience. The background check will be conducted by BVU’s Human Resource department and is at the student’s expense.
