ARTD 410 - Animated Film Production


3 Credit(s)

Students work in teams to create a short animated film, design materials, and audiotrack. Students write a project proposal and production schedule, then proceed through the making process: concept and character development, storyboards, animatics, layouts, audio, and production scheduling.

Prerequisite(s): Junior standing or permission of instructor.

Course Frequency: ALT F (odd years)

Grading Method: Student Option.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Technical ability: Students will produce professional work demonstrating proficiency in analog and digital media. This includes but is not limited to: proportion, perspective, anatomy, drawing digitally, and using appropriate software (ToonBoom, Photoshop, digital tablets, etc). 2.Time & Project Management: Students will display a high level of organization, working with other students and with instructors. Students will set and execute their own deadlines with professor serving as facilitator. Students will communicate professionally and respectfully with their peers and outside vendors. 3.Composition: Students will create successful compositions in digital space both alone and in a series. Students will be able to name film techniques and successfully execute them in their own creative works. 4.Narrative: Students will construct visual narratives using individual pieces of art, as well as graphic novels, animation storyboard and animatics. 5.Time: Students will experiment with time as an artistic tool, including working in series, using animation, and the display of work. Students will be able to speak authoritatively when analyzing film and break down a composition on its visual and narrative tropes.
