TESL 407 - Curriculum Development, Assessment, and Field Experience in ESL 3 Credit(s)
The course emphasizes the role of ESL teachers as course developers and action researchers. It focuses on effective lesson planning, task design, materials development, assessment and evaluation, and the use of instructional technology in instruction. It also provides a general background in language and academic content assessment issues, opportunities to examine assessment instruments, and practical experience developing and using formal and informal assessment measures. The students will be able to critically analyze and select evaluation techniques for measuring ESL students’ performance in academic settings. In addition to the course, students will complete a 60-hour clinical experience in the ESL classroom setting. This experience provides pre-service teachers with an opportunity to demonstrate practical applications of different language approaches and methods.
Prerequisite(s): TESL 330 and must have passed Teacher Education Program Checkpoint II.
