SEDU 310 - Standards, Assessment and Instruction for Engaged Learning 3 Credit(s)
This course provides the initial framework for designing standards-based curriculum that maximizes student motivation, engagement, and achievement in secondary level classrooms. A study of how educators align learning goals, various assessment techniques, and instruction that meets the needs of all learners provides the foundation for designing rigorous and relevant curriculum in 21st century classrooms.
Prerequisite(s): Must have passed Teacher Education Program Checkpoint I.

Learning Outcomes: 1.Employ appropriate interpretive methods in the examination of cultural artifacts in the form of YAL texts.2.Engage enduring questions of the human condition through interaction with disciplinary content.3.Develop an analytical approach toward young adult literature by practicing critical reading and application of literary theoretical analysis when reading texts through various critical lenses.4.Analyze the concept of “young adult literature” as cultural invention, in relation to developmental, intellectual, cultural, and political contexts.5.Articulate an informed response to young adult literature by reading and analyzing scholarly criticism and research.6.Self-reflect upon personal reading history and the development of patterns and motivations pertaining to one’s own literacy practice and engagement with reading young adult literature.7.Think critically about the intellectual, moral, and/or spiritual dimensions of the human experience while practicing intellectual generosity.
