SCWK 443 - Senior Seminar

This course is taken concurrently with Field Practicum (SCWK 440 , SCWK 441 , SCWK 442 ) and integrates social work knowledge, values, skills, and thought and feeling processes developed in the classroom with social work practice activities in the field. Students critique professional and ethical judgments, diversity and difference in practice, and the challenges involved in advancing human rights and social and economic justice, Students implement research-informed practice and practice-informed research, and policy practice to advance social and economic well-being, and to deliver effective social services using the skills of engaging, assessing, intervening, and evaluating.

Prerequisite(s): Satisfactory completion of all social work major courses.

Learning Outcomes:
1.The attributes and implications of Characteristics of Effective Instruction: StudentCentered Classrooms, Teaching for Understanding, Assessment for Learning, Rigorous and Relevant, and Teaching for Learner Differences as they apply to learning content as well as classroom management and student motivation.2.Plan a series of lessons that incorporate the Characteristics of Effective Instruction.3.Apply the Characteristics of Effective Instruction: Student-Centered Classrooms, Teaching for Understanding, Assessment for Learning, Rigorous and Relevant, and Teaching for Learner Differences to facilitate student learning, classroom management, and motivation.4.Reflect on lesson delivery and make decisions based on the data collected during the assessment cycle.5.Vary his/her role in the instructional process based on the content, purpose, of instruction, and needs of learners6.Teachers must work intentionally to create a learning environment that is enhanced by classroom management techniques and motivational strategies that fit the learners.7.Teachers must regularly and systematically engage in critical reflection upon their own practice to ensure student growth.
