ESSI 607 - Methods for Teaching Students with Behavioral Disabilities 3 Credit(s)
Teachers will develop effective instructional strategies for meeting the needs of learners with significant support needs related to learning and behavior disorders in inclusive and self-contained settings in order to promote increased independence and academic and social proficiency with a focus on individual needs in home, school, and community settings with a focus on life-long needs.
Prerequisite(s): MAT student must have passed Teacher Education Program Checkpoint II.
Grading Method: Letter grade.
Learning Outcomes: 1.Identify the components of an effective program for students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD).2.Identify the basic developmental needs of students with EBD.3.Explain how external and internal assets affect a student’s developmental stages.4.Describe and analyze features of school-wide systems that implement a curriculum of responsibility.5.Identify the components necessary for placement decisions6.Explain the difference between social maladjustment and students with EBD.7.Write behavioral goals independently.8.Identify resources for behavior management.9.Research a variety of behavioral systems.10.Implement effective lessons to teach students with EBD.11.Prepare effective lessons to teach students with EBD.12.Outline key issues in determining eligibility for students with EBD. Discuss cultural mismatch as it affects students with EBD.
