ARTD 330 - Ceramics


3 Credit(s)

This course is an introduction to clay forming, tools, and manipulative skills necessary to create both utilitarian and aesthetic three-dimensional ceramic art forms. Ceramic literacy will be developed through a study and application of the elements of design by creating wheel thrown projects, utilizing various techniques of decorating and glazing, and evaluating student work. The class will consider techniques of trimming, decorating, and firing.

Prerequisite(s): ARTD 185  or permission of the instructor.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Demonstrate a working knowledge of ceramic design concepts and an increased visual awareness and verbal articulation related to ceramics.2.Demonstrate the necessary technical abilities, understanding of processes, and knowledge of materials necessary to using clay as an artmaking material.3.Demonstrate an understanding of the basic terminology used within the area of ceramics and be fluent in its correct usage4.Demonstrate knowledge in contemporary practices, artists, and concepts in the ceramic arts.5.Exhibit further advancement in visual intelligence, development of ideas, and visual conception within the creation of artworks.
