ARTD 310 - Painting


3 Credit(s)

This course will provide the foundation for both traditional and contemporary painting methods. Topics include tools, building canvas and wood panels, color theory, subject matter, varnishes, pigments, solvents, painting procedures and framing. Individual expression will be encouraged through in-class assignments evolving into approved independent explorations. Experimentation in different painting media will be encouraged. Group and individual critiques are required. Outside work will be assigned.

Prerequisite(s): ARTD 195  or permission of the instructor.

Course Frequency: ALT F

Grading Method: Student option.

Learning Outcomes:
1.Demonstrate advanced knowledge of color theory and color interaction through transparency and optical mixing.2.Demonstrate direct and indirect painting, sgraffito, glazing, and transparency/opacity.3.Articulate visual ideas while providing a contemporary context in painting.4.Demonstrate technical experimentation and risk-taking.
