ARTD 280 - Business of Art 3 Credit(s)
The purpose of this course is to build professional skill sets critical to students entering a broad spectrum of the for-profit and nonprofit arts, creative, and innovation industries. Topics include business basics, product development, pricing, branding, audience development, budget, planning, and representation.
Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing.

Grading Method: Student option.
Learning Outcomes:
- Acquire and apply key fundamentals about developing and maintaining a professional practice in your art or design field.
- Develop an effective, foundation portfolio and resume and/or Artist Curriculum Vitae including a working foundation Artist Statement/Design Philosophy Statement.
- Develop and prepare professional goals with specific, measurable strategies for 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years.
- Find and recognize opportunities such as grants, public art, calls for artists, fair/festivals, exhibitions, competitions, and residencies.
- Demonstrate awareness of arts/design related careers, legal business structures, copyrights and intellectual property for artists, tax record keeping, and ethics.
